Regular Appointments

Once you are in braces, you will see us at regular intervals, usually 6 weeks apart, for adjustments (which take approximately 30 minutes). We schedule longer appointments in the morning and shorter appointments after school. By doing this, we can accommodate as many families as possible, rather than reserving an entire afternoon for one or two patients. If you prefer to come to the office during a quieter time, please schedule an appointment during school hours.

We make every effort to be on time for our patients and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us immediately. It can be difficult to reschedule since appointments are made 6 weeks in advance.

As a courtesy, we will email you an appointment reminder before each visit. Or if you prefer, we can also text a reminder to your cell phone. And if you ever forget when your next appointment is, you may check this website 24/7 for that information.

Treatment Time and Patient Cooperation

One of the first questions patients often ask is about how long they will be in braces. This depends on factors such as growth and the severity of correction–with treatment time typically ranging from one to three years.

Our goal is always to create the most functional bite and beautiful smile in the shortest amount of time possible. However you, the patient, also play an important role in accomplishing this. After all, we only get to see you once every six weeks; the rest of the time YOU are in charge of how your treatment is progressing. Your teeth and jaws can only move toward their corrected positions if you consistently wear any appliances prescribed. So you, by the decisions you make and the habits you form, help control how long you will be in braces and how enjoyable and efficient the experience will be. In other words, if you have appliances that require your participation, participate! Wear those rubber bands, turn that expander key, and remember that retainer, etc. Faithfully keeping your regularly scheduled appointments can also positively impact your treatment time.
