Can Toothpaste Really Manage Peanut Allergies?!

According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology the answer is hopefully, YES!!

A special toothpaste has been formulated with minuscule amounts of peanut allergens which seem to reduce the risks of a major reaction for those who tried it!

So far, the toothpaste has only been tested in a small study of 32 adults aged 18-55, but it showed impressive promise in the 4-month trial!  And researchers are saying that further studies will also include children.

Take a look at this report from the main author of the study: “We noted that 100% of those being treated with the toothpaste consistently tolerated the...highest dose [of the peanut allergen] .... No moderate nor severe systemic reactions occurred in active participants.... adverse reactions were mostly local (oral itching), mild, and transient.... OMIT [Oral Mucosal Immunotherapy] appears to be a safe and convenient option for adults with food allergies. The results support continued development of this toothpaste in the pediatric population,” (William Berger, MC, and member of ACCAAI).
